Quite literally half a life ago, I made a stick and poke tattoo with pen ink on my upper right leg that has since completely disappeared of the outline of California. All these years since that moment I've been talking a big story about wandering to the golden state and working on music with the palm trees, but its been just that; a lot of talking shit.

I had to wait until I heard others tell the same old schtick I've always tried to sell to realize how silly it is.

You don't need anything to go there. You just need the clothes on your back, a thumb on the side of the highway, and a positive attitude. For Canadians it's a tiny bit harder, but that's more or less it. You can't really complain about the weather in your hometown after you get to a certain age, and if there are greys in your hair, it's certainly on you.

So on one of the darkest nights of January, I locked myself in my room, turned up the baseboard heater, and tried to finally come to peace with the fact that maybe it's my own damned fault i'm freezing my ass off.

Maybe everything we complain about is our own fault...

...But you could just run away in your car.
